Damn! I haven't been here for so long. I miss this place. School is finally letting up a teeny bit. Still got a few exams to pass, including a Russian oral presentation, which I'm half freaking out about. I hate talking in front of a crowd. I'm not having too much trouble with the grammar for now, but I'm happy I took a Latin class in my first year.
Since I was last here, my dearest dears, the Habs, have been up and down... and now they're starting to get back up a bit. Love-of-my-life Sergei is getting some sort of a humility cure, which, in my 12-year-old fan-girl heart, makes me sad even though I know it's necessary.

In September, I went down to Roberval for Kraft Hockeyville. The whole organization was totally hyping it up into something that it so didn't turn out to be. I mean, it was fun and all, but there wasn't much entertainment until the game, and no one except the freaking press was allowed within 50 feet of the Habs. Of course for the Sabres, we were allowed a wee bit closer...

There weren't very big names like Kovy or Price. But there were still some fun people like the Kostitsyns and Tanguay. Carbo decided to have a few recruits from the region play. Apparently, these people don't get the fact that we've seen those guys play before; it's the players like Kovy and Markov and Koivu that we don't all have the means to buy a $200 ticket (plus hotel, gas, etc.) to go see in Montreal (5-6 hours away by car). Here's the line-up for that night:

The Habs did end up winning, though, so that rocked!
Also, for the fan-girl inside me, all was not lost. I got to shake hands with Sexy Bob Gainey and get an autograph. That was pretty intimidating.

I also got an autograph from Youppi (yes, the big orange fluff has an autograph!), who is THE coolest mascot in the history of mascots. I mean, come on, which other mascot has actually changed sports? He's certainly the handsomest.

Then there were interviews: I got to see and photograph (I'm a picture freak) Ron Fournier, ex-referee who now has a hockey radio show. He's quite the character and very well known in Québec. Extremely funny!

There were also two ex-players: Brenoit Brunet and Dave Morissette.

Even Gary Bettman (the hockey elf) was there.

Finally came some actual eye-candy and the only Hab we were able to see up-close: Steve Bégin. This guy is beautiful on tv but those husky-like eyes are out of this world in real life. He gave an interview and talked about the season coming up and his fight the night before. His hands were scratched up a bit. Check out the hotness.

So that was pretty much it for Hockeyville. 'Twould have been cooler had they not over-hyped it in the media, but was pretty fun anyways.
Tomorrow (today, really), I've got tickets to a special hockey game. For Québec's 400th, they organised a Habs vs Nordiques game with ex-players, including Guy Lafleur. I'm really looking forward to that. I'm in my early twenties and I don't grow up in a hockey-crazed family or anything, so I never really saw Lafleur in action, even less in live action. I doubt I'll have that chance again. We've got pretty respectable seats too, so I can't wait. I'll take pictures (obviously).
